On July 25, 2019, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson delivered his first address to Parliament since becoming prime minister, calling on the European Union to reconsider its decision not to renegotiate the Brexit deal.

Johnson stated that the Brexit deal negotiated by his predecessor, Theresa May, is 'unacceptable,' as it 'signed away' Britain's economic and government independence.

He insisted that Britain is better prepared than most observers believed to leave the EU without a new agreement, and urged the EU to rethink its refusal to make changes to the Withdrawal Agreement.

Johnson's call for the EU to reassess the deal may be problematic, given that much of Europe is on vacation during the month of August.

Opposition Labor Party leader Jeremy Corbyn addressed parliament after Johnson, reiterating his party's stance that they would reject any Brexit deal proposed by Johnson if it does not protect jobs, employee rights, and the environment.
