Tragedy has struck the boxing world once again, with the death of 23-year-old Hugo Santillan, who collapsed in the ring after a fight in Argentina on July 25, 2019.
Santillan had fought Eduardo Javier Abreu for the WBC Latino Silver Lightweight title on July 20, 2019, in Buenos Aires, but the fight ended in a draw.
According to reports, Santillan collapsed in the ring as the announcer presented the results after 10 rounds of intense boxing.
He was rushed to the closest hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery for a clot in his brain, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries.
His death comes just days after Russian boxer Maxim Dadashev died in a US hospital following a fight on July 19, 2019.
The World Boxing Council tweeted, "Rest in Peace, Hugo Santillan. He passed away from injuries suffered during Saturday's fight which ended in a draw."
