On Thursday, July 25, 2019, the Busia County stadium played host to the inaugural Busia Vocational Training Centres (VTC) ball games, which kicked off with a bang.
Busia County's football talent was on full display as Captain Brayan Mwanda and Hassan Mango scored a brace each to lead Busia to a 4-0 win over Budalangi-based Busagwa in a Pool 'A' match.
Mango capitalized on a defensive lapse to score the first goal in the 16th minute, before Mwanda calmly beat the opposing goalkeeper two minutes later to put his team on the driving seat.
At the restart, Busagwa put up a spirited fight, but Mwanda's second goal in the 55th minute sealed the win for Busia.
"The final score doesn't mean that our opponents were weak, they just had a bad day in office," said Mango, who failed to score in the barren draw against Amaase in their second match of the day.
Busagwa's Robert Otwane noted that they were punished for poor defending, but vowed to rectify their mistakes and avoid an early exit from the championship.
Meanwhile, Amaase from Teso South Sub County picked an easy 3-1 win over Buburi VTC from Samia in the second match of the day.
County Executive for Education John Mwami, who flagged off the event, said the two-day tournament was a step in the right direction in the county's efforts to nurture talents.
