Manchester United's pursuit of a new striker has taken a new turn, with Lyon's Moussa Dembele emerging as a top target if the club decides to sell Romelu Lukaku.

According to reports, Dembele, 23, is seen as an ideal replacement for Lukaku, who is valued at over £79m by the Premier League club.

However, United's attempts to sign the French striker have been complicated by Inter Milan's bid for Lukaku, which was rejected last week. The Italian club's CEO, Beppe Marotta, is reportedly mindful of Financial Fair Play rules and is looking to sell several players, including Mauro Icardi and Joao Mario.

As a result, time is running out for United to find a replacement for Lukaku, who has missed four pre-season matches due to fitness issues.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has maintained that he is not growing frustrated with the lack of incomings this summer, saying: 'I believe in these players. I'm sure we could do well, but it's both short term and long term.'

United have already signed Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James, but have had bids rejected for Leicester City and England defender Harry Maguire.
