On Thursday morning, a disturbing video emerged of a motorist engaging in a heated altercation with a uniformed traffic police officer in Karen, Nairobi.
The incident, which occurred near Nairobi Montessori Preparatory School, was captured on camera by an onlooker.
According to eyewitnesses, the motorist was involved in an accident around Lavington earlier that morning before fleeing the scene.
Later, the motorist was seen fighting with the traffic police officer, who was seated in the front passenger seat of the vehicle.
Onlookers intervened, opening the passenger door and allowing the motorist to push the officer out before speeding away.
Following the video's widespread circulation, a warrant was issued for the motorist's arrest, and he was apprehended on Thursday evening.
Lang'ata OCPD Gregory Mutiso confirmed the arrest, stating that the motorist would be taken to court on Friday morning.
“The driver has been arrested and will appear in court tomorrow (Friday),” said Mutiso.
Investigations revealed that the vehicle, registration number KCT 730Q, was bought on a hire purchase deal from a firm in Mombasa on April 1, 2019.
The car's ownership details were later confirmed by Ms Nancy Kariuki, who operates the vehicle as a taxi through cab hailing apps.
