On June 23, 2019, the Rwanda Table Tennis Federation hosted a table tennis competition in Kigali, Rwanda, sponsored by the Chinese Embassy in Rwanda. The event aimed to promote friendship among people from different places.

The competition, named the Chinese Ambassador's Cup, featured three categories: adult men's group, adolescent boys' group, and adolescent girls' group. Contestants from Rwanda and the Chinese community in Rwanda participated in the event, which was held for the second time in the country.

Chinese Ambassador to Rwanda Rao Hongwei praised the competition, stating that it provided players from different places with an ideal platform to demonstrate their skills, learn from each other, and enhance their friendship.

Rao Hongwei also emphasized the potential of table tennis and the Rwanda Table Tennis Federation to contribute to people-to-people exchanges between China and Rwanda.

John Birungi, President of the Rwanda Table Tennis Federation, thanked the Chinese embassy for its support and announced plans to popularize table tennis in Rwanda. He called on people who love table tennis to support the project.
