On Wednesday, a Kenyan delegation led by Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Monica Juma delivered 35 kilograms of gold worth over Sh100 million to President Magufuli at Tanzania's State House.
The gold was impounded at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in 2018 and was seized from a 46-year-old Tanzanian national who was heading to Dubai.
Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) officials had arrested the man on February 21st last year, seizing an invoice worth $859,890 (Sh87 million) in the process.
President Magufuli received the consignment and praised the move, saying it would promote the war against illegal trade between the two countries.
During the handing over ceremony, Magufuli received a phone call from President Kenyatta, who urged the two countries to continue working together to fight corruption and return stolen funds to their people.
