Published on July 24, 2019, the Department of Transportation has guidelines for airline compensation when passengers are involuntarily bumped off flights.
Under these guidelines, passengers may be entitled to compensation, which can include reimbursement for the cost of a new ticket, as well as a voucher for future travel.
According to the Department of Transportation, airlines are legally required to provide compensation to passengers who are bumped from a flight, and the amount of compensation varies depending on the circumstances of the flight.
For example, if a passenger is bumped from a flight and the airline is unable to rebook them on a flight that arrives at their destination within one hour of the originally scheduled arrival time, the passenger may be entitled to compensation of up to $675.
It's worth noting that passengers who are bumped from a flight may also be entitled to other forms of compensation, such as reimbursement for meals and lodging.
