On the third day of the Sikh Union Club Astroturf Inauguration tournament, July 24, 2019, Indian visitors Sports Authority of India (SAI) were poised to take home both the men's and women's titles.
SAI men were set to face off against Kenya's Green Sharks in the first semi-finals on Thursday, a match expected to be fiercely contested given both teams' impressive performances in previous games.
SAI had secured their spot in the semi-finals after defeating United States International University of Africa (USIU-A) 2-0, with the winning goal scored in the final period.
Green Sharks, on the other hand, had advanced to the semi-finals after a 5-0 thrashing of Arusha, with Abraham Mumo, Nimrod Bisonga, Felix Abdalla, Samuel Namonyo, and Daniel Bunyasi all finding the back of the net.
The second semi-finals of the men's event would feature Sikh Union and Kenya Police, with the hosts taking advantage of their home ground to beat USIU-A 3-1.
Meanwhile, in the women's category, SAI ladies were leading the standings with 6 points after winning both their matches, including a 9-0 thrashing of Orange Leonas.
Record Kenyan champions Telkom sat second with 3 points, having played only one match, and would face USIU-A on Thursday before taking on SAI Ladies on Friday.
