On July 24, 2019, a significant diplomatic gesture was made when top Kenyan government officials flew to Tanzania with 35.3 kilos of gold worth approximately Sh168 million.

The gold, which was seized at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), was handed over to President Pombe Magufuli in a move aimed at mending relations between the two nations.
