On July 24, 2019, Heritage Insurance unveiled a revolutionary telematics car insurance system designed to combat motor vehicle insurance fraud.

The innovative system employs a computerized device that transmits crucial information on driving habits, including braking and acceleration, to inform insurance claim settlement and reduce cases of fraud.

According to the Insurance Fraud Investigation Unit, insurance fraud accounts for approximately 20 percent of all claims.

Motor vehicle insurance fraud involves a syndicate of motor vehicle owners, assessors, and employees of insurance companies, garage owners, and spare part dealers propagating false claims.

This estimated to cost insurers hundreds of millions of shillings annually.

Underwriters are embracing telematics technology to address this fraud and improve service delivery and customer confidence.

The device records information on driving habits, including acceleration, braking, and cornering, which are used when an accident claim is lodged.

Surveys have revealed that females are safer drivers than their male counterparts.
