Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has made a series of appointments to the Nairobi Water Company board, including Raila Odinga's sister, Beryle Odinga.
On July 24, 2019, the inaugural meeting of the new board took place, where the appointments were confirmed.
Joining Beryle Odinga on the board are Karen Nyamu, former Capital FM editor Michael Mumo, Timothy Muriuki, Finance CEC Charles Kerich, Emma Mukuhi, Acting County Secretary Leboo Morindat, Martin Mbicire, and Mohammed Abdulahi.
Leonard Munyao, a close ally of Governor Sonko, has been named as the Chairman of the board, succeeding Raphael Nzomo.
The board's first task will be to confirm the long-serving Technical Director and acting Managing Director, Eng Nahshon Muguna.
The Nairobi Water Company, with an annual budget of over Sh10 billion, has been struggling with high 'unaccounted for water' estimated at an average 40 per cent.
