On July 23, 2019, the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) took to Twitter to share a rather unexpected message.
The tweet, which advised the youth to stay away from drugs, read, 'Vijana tuache Mihadarati.'
However, the tweet was met with amusement and sarcasm from Kenyans on Twitter, with many poking fun at the agency's unusual message.
One Twitter user, @Wexas_, responded with, 'Juu ya hii tweet, i gonna pay tax!' while another user, @RealWanjikuKE, joked, 'Whoever JM is aongezewe mshahara.'
The administrator who posted the tweet signed their name using the initials JM, leaving many to wonder if the message was meant to be taken literally.
This is not the first time KRA has sent out an 'alarmist' message to the public. In December 2017, the agency sent out a Christmas message through email that read, 'Dear Taxpayer, Season's Greetings.'
The message put netizens on high alert, with some dreading to open the emails for fear of the unknown.
