On July 24, 2019, Google unveiled Gallery Go, a new lightweight app aimed at providing offline photo management capabilities to users in emerging markets.

Gallery Go is positioned as a 'lite' version of the popular Google Photos app, designed to work offline and cater to users in regions where mobile data access is limited and expensive.

India, Africa, and other emerging markets are the primary focus areas for Gallery Go, where Android Go Edition devices are gaining popularity. The app's offline capabilities are expected to bridge the gap for users who cannot afford stable mobile data connections.

According to Google, Gallery Go uses machine learning to organize and enhance photos, allowing users to find, edit, and manage their photos even when offline. The app is available for download on the Google Play Store worldwide, with a minimum requirement of Android 8.1 Oreo.

As of now, some features like organizing photos by people are yet to be released in all countries. However, it's likely that future Android Go phones will come with Gallery Go pre-installed.

“Gallery Go was designed to work offline, to help you manage your photos using less data. And at just 10 MB, the app won’t slow down your phone and leaves space to store more memories,” Google stated in a blog post.
