Qatar Petroleum Enters Kenyan Offshore Exploration

On July 23, 2019, Qatar Petroleum announced a significant move into Kenya's offshore oil exploration sector.

The company signed an agreement to enter three offshore exploration blocks in the Lamu Basin, located east of Kenya.

Following regulatory approvals by the Kenyan government, the consortium will comprise Eni (operator) with a 41.25 percent participating interest, Total with 33.75 percent, and Qatar Petroleum with 25 percent.
