On July 24, 2019, CPS Research International released a study on the electoral college system in Kenyan universities, revealing that a majority of students support the current system.

Conducted in both public and private universities, the study found that 58.9 percent of students are satisfied with the electoral college system, while 41.1 percent are dissatisfied.

Strathmore University emerged as the most satisfied institution, with an 80 percent score index, according to the study.

The study also highlighted that 85 percent of students are aware of the electoral college system, and 56.1 percent are satisfied with their current student associations' leadership.

Furthermore, 60.3 percent of respondents believe that the current students' councils reflect national diversity, while 39.7 percent disagree.

The study recommends retaining the electoral college system, citing its promotion of national diversity and reduction of election-related violence.

Lead researcher Herman Manyora emphasized the need for enhanced awareness of the electoral college system and annual general meetings to increase transparency in student unions.
