On July 24, 2019, Tanzanian singer Lulu Diva, popularly known as Lulu Diva, made headlines after confirming her relationship with Starehe MP Charles Kanyi, a.k.a. Jaguar.
Speaking to a Tanzanian local daily, Diva revealed that she and Jaguar have been dating for four months and have decided to make their relationship public.
“Wala siyo ghafla kama watu wanavyodhani. Tulianza kama miezi mine nyuma na sasa tumeamua kuweka wazi,” said the Ona singer.
According to Diva, she decided to date Jaguar, a Kenyan, because her previous relationships in Tanzania did not last long.
The two are currently on holiday in Dubai and plan to visit Jaguar's parents in Nairobi after their return.
“Ni kula bata tu, baadae tutakwenda zetu Nairobi nyumbani kwa wakwe,” she said.
Interestingly, before the two started dating, Jaguar was Lulu Diva's manager whenever she was in Kenya for a show.
Earlier in June, Diva had strongly defended Jaguar over his xenophobic remarks, which went viral.
Speaking to Standard, Diva said that Jaguar was only putting the interests of his people first and that it was something that happens everywhere.
“He is speaking for his people. He wants his people to have the priority that is being given to others. In fact, that’s the true work of a politician,” the Standard quoted Diva.
