On July 24, 2019, a shocking incident unfolded at Makueni Girls' High School, where three Form Two students, aged 15, allegedly hatched a plot to poison a classmate over a love affair.

The students, who were dating a boy from Makueni Boys' High School, discovered that their classmate was also involved with the same boyfriend. In a twisted move, they decided to eliminate the classmate by lacing her meal with phenolphthalein, a lab chemical stolen from the school laboratory.

However, their plan failed when the executor refused to carry out the task, leading to a heated argument among the trio. One of them then informed a prefect, who in turn reported the incident to the school administration.

The case was later reported to the Makueni police station by the deputy principal, Dorcas Nzioka. The students were questioned at the station but were not arrested.

According to the police boss, Timothy Maina, the incident highlights the audacity of young girls who are capable of such heinous crimes. The students were sent home after being interrogated by the police, and the case has been referred back to the school management.

As reported by the Makueni police boss, the students' plan was to execute the poisoning during lunchtime, with one of them acting as the executor while the other two kept watch. However, the plan fell apart due to the refusal of the executor to carry out the task.
