July 24, 2019, marks the day a Dallas family filed a lawsuit against The Tradition-Prestonwood Assisted Living and Memory Care, where their 90-year-old relative, Doris Wasserman, died in December 2017.

Wasserman's family claims that she was a victim of Billy Chemirmir, a Kenyan immigrant and healthcare worker, who is already facing several murder charges for the deaths of 12 elderly women in Texas.

The family accuses the assisted living facility of failing to provide adequate security for residents, allowing Chemirmir to allegedly strangle or suffocate his victims to steal their valuables.

According to the lawsuit, $8,500 worth of jewelry was missing from Wasserman's apartment after her death, and police tracking data placed Chemirmir at the facility on the day of her death.

"We believe that The Tradition put profits over the safety of its residents," said Quentin Brogdon, the family's attorney. "Doris Wasserman and her family entrusted Ms. Wasserman's safety into the hands of The Tradition because of The Tradition's promises about safety and security -- promises that were made but never kept."

"We believe that The Tradition put profits over the safety of its residents. To say that this family is devastated and feels betrayed by The Tradition would be a gross understatement," the family's attorney Quentin Brogdon said.

Chemirmir is currently being held in the Dallas County Jail in lieu of a $11.6 million bail.
