On July 18, 2019, a class prefect at Makueni Girls High School reported to the school's Deputy Principal, Dorcas Nzioka, that three 15-year-old students had planned to poison a classmate.

The alleged plot was to use chemicals stolen from the school laboratory, including hydrochloric acid, Benedict's solution, and phenolphthalein indicator, to poison the classmate, who was allegedly in a relationship with a boy from the nearby Makueni Boys High School.

According to a police report, one of the students was to execute the plan by lacing the victim's lunch meal with phenolphthalein indicator, while the other two kept vigil.

However, the executor developed cold feet and opted to blow the whistle, reporting the plan to the class prefect, who then informed the school administration.

Confirming the incident, Makueni County Deputy Police Commander Justus Kitetu stated that cases only proceed to court depending on their gravity.

Following the incident, the case was thrown out, and the school administration was directed to oversee it to a logical conclusion.
