July 23, 2019 - The ongoing freeze on betting firms in Kenya has not deterred gamblers, who are seeking alternative platforms to place their bets.
Even as top sites like SportPesa and Betin have had their licenses revoked, gamblers are turning to other options, including offshore accounts.
"Betting has really supported me and my kin; I started out in high school where I staked my pocket money," said Brian, a devoted gambler in Embakasi. "I have always exercised moderation and hence only seek out a sound return on my wager by taking low risks."

According to a recent study by Geopoll and Ipsos Synovate, Kenyans aged between 18-29 have continued to place bets at an average of Ksh.1550 per month.
The Ministry of Interior suspended pay bills and short-codes belonging to 27 betting firms on July 10, 2019, citing non-compliance with license renewal requirements.
