Published on July 23, 2019, former Finance Minister Musalia Mudavadi has expressed concerns over the absence of a Cabinet Secretary or Principal Secretary at the Treasury, warning that it could spell trouble for the government.
Mudavadi, who spoke to Citizen TV, stated that the charges levelled against CS Henry Rotich and his deputy Kamau Thugge have dented Kenya's image internationally and could worsen relations if the two stay in office.
“Treasury is a very hot seat….as it stands things have changed, this is not the error where one could just blame the in discrepancies on the person above them. Essentially they are responsible for every thing to do with money in the government,” Mudavadi told Citizen TV.
He further urged Rotich to 'do the honourable thing' and resign from office, citing that should he continue to serve under his post with the allegations hanging over his head, it will paint the government in a bad light.
Mudavadi reiterated that the President can appoint any Cabinet Secretary in acting capacity to hold the office, and that one does not have to be a financial or accounting expert to be entrusted with the treasury office.
