Arsenal star Alex Iwobi has hit back at claims that he might quit the club, sparking concerns over his commitment to the team.

The 23-year-old Nigerian forward appeared to suggest that he might leave Arsenal in an interview over the weekend, citing concerns over the potential arrival of Wilfried Zaha in the coming weeks.

However, Iwobi has now sought to clarify his comments, insisting that he hopes Arsenal go on to sign top players and progress as a team.

“Fake news and click bait,” he tweeted, alongside a screenshot of the headlines.

“I don’t know why some newspapers enjoy twisting words. I hope we sign world-class players at Arsenal and progress as a team. I’m looking forward to the new season,” he added.

Iwobi's comments come as he faces increased competition for a starting spot in the team, with Reiss Nelson and emerging attacker Eddie Nketiah returning to the squad.

The Nigerian forward is not with the Gunners on their US tour as he has just returned from the African Cup of Nations, where he helped Nigeria finish in third place.
