On July 23, 2019, a group of friends of the late Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore gifted Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta a bottle of expensive whiskey worth KSh 460,000.
The whiskey, a Johnnie Walker Directors Blend, is a rare and expensive variety that was produced in 2010 and given to the company's directors.
The group, known as 'Collymore's boys club,' consists of Ally Khan Satchu, Patrick Quarcoo, Peter Kenneth, Jeff Koinange, Bharat Thakrar, Nic Hailey, and Joshua Oigara.
According to Peter Kenneth, the group had a drink together at All Saints Cathedral, and the whiskey was a special gift from Bob Collymore.
However, President Uhuru Kenyatta later clarified that the whiskey was a gift from Collymore, but he had not been able to return it to him.
"I was supposed to receive this special gift from Bob, and so Peter Kenneth, Oigara, and others had to pay for it. It was not yours," President Uhuru Kenyatta said.
