On July 23, 2019, Denis Itumbi, the Secretary of Innovation, Digital and Diaspora Communication in the Office of the President of the Republic of Kenya, was charged with orchestrating a fake assassination letter against Deputy President William Ruto.
Itumbi, who was arrested and later released on bail, denied three counts related to the alleged fake letter.
According to the charges, Itumbi was accused of making a false document without authority and publishing a false statement with the intent to cause anxiety to the general public.
Police also claimed that he reprogrammed his Samsung Note 9, saying he intentionally interfered with the operation of the mobile phone.
Itumbi's actions have sparked a review of his position at State House, with the Director of Public Prosecutions giving a go-ahead for the prosecution to charge him.
