On December 4th, 2018, Deputy President William Ruto embarked on an official three-day visit to Rome, Italy, with the aim of wooing investors from the European country. However, it has now emerged that during his trip, Ruto met with Italian officials involved in the construction of the scandalous Arror and Kimwarer Dam.
A CCTV footage obtained by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and part of the evidence to be presented in court, confirms the meeting took place. The footage is believed to have been obtained when the DPP, Noordin Haji, and the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss, George Kinoti, accompanied by top investigators from the DCI, visited Rome and Milan, Italy, to seek the assistance of the Italian government in probing the deal.
Following their visit to Italy, the team flew to Dubai, where they managed to establish the path through which money was wired and identified those responsible for the theft. The Dubai authorities have since frozen the accounts involved in the scandal.
According to insiders, there is a second phase of arrests planned, which will involve foreigners implicated in the theft, including a Kenyan with citizenship in the UK and Greece.
”It was shocking to see those caught in the video. It is clear on the motive. Kenyans will be shocked when the clip is finally played in court and subsequently released to the public,” said an official involved in the probe, on condition of anonymity.
