On July 23, 2019, United States Ambassador to Kenya Kyle McCarter announced that the FBI would be assisting Kenyan investigative agencies in probing corruption cases.
During a meeting with officials from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) at Integrity Centre in Nairobi, Ambassador McCarter revealed that the FBI would be sharing intelligence on asset tracking and recovery with Kenyan authorities.
McCarter emphasized that the US agency would be working closely with EACC and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to build strong cases against individuals involved in graft.
While declining to provide specific details on the cases the FBI would be involved in, McCarter stated, "We don’t have to advertise everything we do because we don’t want to educate criminals. The criminals will be caught by surprise,"
He added, "The people of Kenya deserve justice and we are going to deploy every resource. We want to win the war on corruption and that is our focus,"
McCarter also expressed his commitment to ensuring that all assets stashed in the US by corrupt individuals are returned to Kenya.
