On July 22, 2019, Homa Bay County Governor Cyprian Awiti was discharged from the Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi, where he had been admitted for about 26 days.

Awiti's health complications began on June 27, 2019, while he was disbursing Ksh.100 million bursary funds at Orero Boys High School in Rangwe, prompting an initial hospital visit in Kisumu.

Following his initial treatment, Awiti was referred to the Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi on June 28, 2019, where he received further treatment.

According to Homa Bay County Government Director of Communications Juma Aluoch, Governor Awiti's health has improved significantly and he will be back in the county soon.

Awiti expressed gratitude to fellow political leaders who wished him a quick recovery during his hospital stay.
