On July 12, a court issued a judgment in favor of the Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut), granting tutors reprieve on promotions and career progression. The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has since filed a case seeking to suspend this decision.
However, in a response to the TSC's case, Knut has urged the court to deny the application for a stay of execution of the judgment. The union argued that the commission's request would only prolong the matter, potentially leading to strikes.
According to documents filed at the court, Knut stated that the commission's reasons for seeking to suspend the decision were 'frivolous.' The union further emphasized that the judgment should be allowed to stand, as it would not cause any prejudice to the TSC.
As the TSC intends to take the matter to the Court of Appeal, Knut has urged the court to dismiss the case and allow the judgment to take effect.
