On July 22, 2019, State House Director of Digital and Media Dennis Itumbi faced charges related to an alleged fake letter claiming a plot to assassinate Deputy President William Ruto.
Itumbi was charged with three offenses: making a false document without authority, publishing a false statement, and reprogramming a mobile phone.
When appearing before Magistrate Kennedy Cheruiyot, Itumbi denied the charges.
Prosecutors sought stringent bond terms and a ban on Itumbi publishing case-related content on social media.
However, Itumbi's lawyer, Katwa Kigen, described the charges as 'ridiculous.'
