On July 22, 2019, Ecobank and the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) launched a digital platform for paying levies at the Namanga border and other locations across the country.
The initiative aims to enhance financial inclusion and transparency by enabling taxpayers to pay levies digitally, reducing the need for traditional cash and bank deposits at border points.
Payment of taxes has largely been through traditional modes of payments such as cash or bank deposits, but digitizing payments guarantees convenience and flexibility for taxpayers, lowering security risks associated with cash transactions and addressing the challenge of handling bulk cash.
Speaking at the launch, Ecobank's Head of Transactional Services Group for Central, Eastern and Southern Africa region, Robert Kola, said the digital platform will help minimize corruption in tax payment.
The KRA has automated tax payment across various stations to improve service delivery in Kenya, and clearing and forwarding agents and other taxpayers using the digital platforms to make payments will benefit from easy access to accurate payment information.
