Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has come under fire for his handling of a crisis at Mbagathi Hospital, where a patient's life was lost due to delayed medical attention.

According to a family member, the patient was referred to the hospital from Korogocho as an emergency case, but medics took hours to attend to them.

The family member reached out to Governor Sonko via WhatsApp, sharing a picture of a mother who lost her child at the hospital while waiting for doctors to attend to the child who had ingested kerosene.

“Another child rushed in after swallowing paraffin has just lost her life while waiting for someone to attend to her,” the WhatsApp message read.

Instead of taking immediate action to address the situation, Governor Sonko responded by threatening to sack the hospital's staff on Facebook.

“This the Kind of NONSENSE I don’t like and if I take action utasikia tu kwa wakikimbilia media ati napenda kufuta watu kazi. Nimewapangia raundi hii,” Sonko posted on Facebook.

Published on July 22, 2019, this incident raises questions about Governor Sonko's leadership and his response to crisis situations.
