On July 21, 2019, KCCA Football Club made history by winning the Cecafa Kagame Cup, ending a 40-year drought.

Left-back Mustafa Kizza scored the winning goal in the 63rd minute with a long-range shot that skipped off his teammates and left Azam goalkeeper Razak Abalora rooted.

The victory saw KCCA, the Ugandan Premier League champions, pocket $30,000 (Sh3 million) in prize money, while the runners-up, Azam, received $20,000 (Sh2 million).

The match was a repeat of the Group B encounter in Huye, where KCCA emerged winners 1-0.
