On July 21, 2019, Deputy President William Ruto attended the wedding of Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu's daughter Monica Njeri to Herman Nyotu Gitau at PCEA Evergreen Church in Runda.
As one of the high-profile guests, Ruto took the opportunity to offer the couple words of wisdom on how to navigate their new life together.
He began by blessing the couple and advising the groom to prioritize his wife's needs, ensuring she is well-fed and nicely dressed.
"You must take care of your beautiful wife, making sure that she is well-fed and nicely dressed. Whenever you come across a good dress as you go about your business, buy it for your wife so that you don’t have to admire how beautiful other women look in their dresses," Ruto said, attracting applause from the gathering.
Ruto also hinted at the possibility of the couple having a child, reminding the groom that the government provides free maternity services at all government hospitals.
"I want to inform you that the government of Kenya now pays for maternity issues, so don’t you worry, some issues are taken care of. So when the time for the bride to give birth comes as a result of your hard work, the government will foot the bill," Ruto added.
