Migori Governor Okoth Obado has denied reports that he has settled on a successor for the 2022 election, saying he is focused on his legacy.
Speaking to Standard Digital, the governor said he was too busy working on his legacy to discuss who will become his successor.
Reports emerged after a meeting between the governor and two former MPs, Omondi Anyanga and John Kobado, at his Rapogi home last week.
However, the governor admitted that the two leaders visited him, but said succession politics was never part of the agenda.
"I meet almost all leaders in Migori to discuss issues affecting our people and how best we can resolve them, not who will become governor in 2022, that will be decided by the people, not Obado," he said.
Anyanga has remained coy about the meeting, saying they talked about the handshake and how it can benefit Migori.
Senator Ochillo Ayacko, however, hit out at Anyanga for defending Obado, saying he was playing sycophantic politics to earn endorsement ahead of the 2022 polls.
Other leaders reportedly eyeing Obado's seat include former Rongo MP Dalmas Otieno, Uriri MP Mark Nyamita, Dr Phillip Mwabe, and Suna East MP Junet Mohamed.
