On July 20, 2019, President Uhuru Kenyatta made a rare gesture of respect to Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko at the launch of the refurbished KCC factory in Dandora.

During the event, Governor Sonko was initially ignored, but President Kenyatta intervened, cutting short his speech to invite Sonko to the podium.

"Before I give my speech, allow me to invite my host Governor Sonko to give a few remarks lest he thinks that I have ignored him," President Kenyatta said.

He made it clear that no other politician would speak after Sonko, stating, "No one else will address this meeting, they can do that later."

Governor Sonko acknowledged the rare privilege, saying, "I do not want to give a long speech because once the president takes to the podium, no one else should speak. As such, this is a great sign of respect."

He also refrained from politics, focusing on supporting the big four agenda and development, and warned that no one would be spared in an effort to reclaim grabbed public land.
