July 19, 2019, marked a turning point in my perception of Kenyan musicians. The release of Ethic's Lamba Lolo sparked a debate about the direction of local music. Initially, I found their style unappealing, but as more artists like Ochunglo Family and Rico Gang gained popularity, I began to appreciate their unique sound.

It's no secret that new-age musicians have taken the Kenyan music scene by storm. Their provocative and often raunchy lyrics have sparked controversy, but they have also gained a massive following. As a former critic, I've come to realize that resisting this movement is futile. The popularity of these artists will only continue to grow, and it's time to accept and even celebrate their contributions to Kenyan music.

With new artists emerging every day, it's clear that this is a revolution that will shape the country's sound for decades to come. While some may hope for a more toned-down approach, it's undeniable that new-age musicians have brought a fresh energy to the scene. As a fan, I can only hope that their music will continue to evolve and inspire a new generation of Kenyan artists.

Listen to Ochunglo Family's latest hit, Kaa Na Mama Yako, below.
