On July 19, 2019, a Senate committee held sittings in Governor Wycliffe Oparanya's office in Kakamega County to discuss the recent spate of killings in the region.
The Senate Committee on National Security, Defence and Foreign Relations had summoned the Western regional security team to brief them on the security situation in Kilingili market in Vihiga County, where six guards were killed in one night.
However, the regional security team, led by Regional Commissioner Anne Ng'etich, Regional Police Commander Rashid Yakubu, County Commissioner Pauline Dola, and County Police Commander Bernard Muli, failed to attend the meeting.
They have been given seven days to present written submissions to the Senate committee, which will now hold sittings in Nairobi.
