Published on July 19, 2019, Nairobi County's department of public health has issued a seven-day notice to claim 23 unclaimed bodies at the City Mortuary, which have been lying there since November 2018.
The notice, signed by acting County Secretary and head of public service Mr Leboo Ole Morintat, warns that the bodies will be disposed of if not claimed within the given timeframe.
According to the notice, the majority of the bodies were brought in by the police from various parts of the city, with the cause of death being murder or accident.
Under the Public Health Act Cap 242, the Nairobi county has the authority to dispose of unclaimed bodies, which are usually buried in a common mass grave or donated to institutions of learning.
