On April 29, 2017, a tragic incident occurred outside Mweiga police station in Kieni West sub-county, where 34-year-old Daniel Oyondi Moi hacked to death Reginah Kiinya, a mother of four, after she rejected his advances.

According to the court ruling, Moi had been stalking Kiinya for over a year and had become suspicious that she was being promiscuous because she was still in a relationship with the father of her children.

Justice Teresiah Matheka noted that Moi's actions were inexcusable, as he could have simply walked away instead of resorting to violence.

“Courts must send the strongest message that marital or relationship disputes cannot, should not, and should never be resolved through killing or causing any harm to the other party,” stated Justice Matheka.

On his defense, Moi claimed he was provoked after ringing Kiinya's phone and being answered by an unidentified man, but the court rejected this claim, stating that Moi's actions were premeditated and inhumane.

Justice Matheka emphasized that the society must revive its revulsion to any form of violence and lovers must learn that if a relationship does not work, the partners must have the human sense to walk away and seek other solutions.
