On July 18, 2019, an Australian court handed down a 10-month prison term to Esther Arunga, a former KTN TV anchor, for her role in the murder of her three-year-old son, Sinclair Timberlake, in 2014.
Arunga was immediately freed on parole, sparking outrage from Quincy's mother, Rosemeg Wambitta, who felt the sentence was too light.
Speaking at her home in Mbeme, Kisumu County, Wambitta expressed her disappointment and hurt, stating that she had not heard from her son in many years and was worried about his well-being.
Arunga had pleaded guilty to being an accessory to murder after the fact to manslaughter, admitting to lying to the police to help her husband, Timberlake, avoid punishment.
Justice Martin Burns, in his ruling, took into account Arunga's cultural beliefs and the fact that she had suffered a great deal during the five years since her son's death.
However, Wambitta's concerns about her son's safety and well-being were not addressed, leaving her feeling frustrated and hurt.
‘’I have no reason to celebrate Arunga’s victory concerning the murder case against my son even if she is happy,” said Wambitta.
