Naivas Suspends Sale of Red Meat Amid Safety Concerns ¶
Naivas Supermarket has suspended the sale of red meat in all its branches across the country following safety concerns.
According to a statement issued by the supermarket's management, the decision was made to investigate the source of the meat being sold and to ensure that it is safe for customers.
Naivas has stated that it will only sell white meat, such as chicken and fish, until the results of the investigation are known.
The move comes after a report by NTV exposed the use of a chemical called 'sodium metabisulfite' to preserve food, which is being used in high quantities that are considered hazardous.
Following the report, the Ministry of Health was forced to issue a statement urging the public to be cautious when consuming meat from Naivas.
According to the ministry's report, 15% of the meat sold in major supermarkets in Nairobi is not safe for human consumption.
Naivas' decision to suspend the sale of red meat is a precautionary measure to protect its customers.
Naivas' management has assured that the supermarket will take strict action against any supplier found to be selling hazardous meat.
Naivas' move comes after Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua ordered the closure of all Naivas branches in the county due to safety concerns.
Naivas' management has stated that it will cooperate fully with the investigation and will take necessary measures to ensure that its customers are protected.
Naivas' decision to suspend the sale of red meat is a welcome move that will protect the health and safety of its customers.
