On Thursday night, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) conducted a raid in Fedha Estate, Nairobi, where they seized $10 million in fake US currency.
According to the DCI, the operation was sparked by a tip-off, which led to the arrest of three suspects: Joshua Odhiambo (19), Jane Ogenda (20), and Dickson Ombaso (27).
The suspects were found in possession of a fake motor vehicle number plate and an iPad labeled 'GOK.'
Additionally, the DCI recovered some chemical believed to be used in processing the fake currency from the suspects' house.
As the DCI noted in a tweet, the suspects have been placed in custody and will be arraigned in court on Friday.
This is not the first time detectives have made a significant seizure of fake currency in Nairobi. In April, they recovered Sh1.2 billion in fake US dollars at the Barclays Bank Queensway branch. In May, they also recovered millions of fake US dollars, Zambian Kwachas, and over 100 kilograms of fake gold nuggets in Kilimani. In February, they recovered 75kgs of fake gold and Sh32 billion worth of fake notes.
