On July 18, 2019, Government Spokesperson Col Rtd Cyrus Oguna addressed Inua Jamii beneficiaries in Marigat, Baringo County, where he emphasized that the government has not yet decided on maize importation.

According to Oguna, the government's primary concern is ensuring that Kenyans have sufficient food in their stores. He assured the public that the country has enough food and that no one would go hungry.

Meanwhile, in Eldoret, maize farmers met with the Strategic Food Reserve (SFR) board, led by former Cabinet minister Noah Wekesa, to discuss their grievances. The farmers pushed for the suspension of planned imports and better prices for their current harvests, with a minimum of Sh3,000 per 90kg bag.

Dr. Wekesa assured the farmers that the SFR board would act in accordance with their recommendations, stating that the board had assessed the maize situation and listened to the farmers' cries.

"Farmers toil for nine months, and by September, most of them will start harvesting," Dr. Wekesa said.
