This archive report was first published on 19 July 2019.

Between June 2018 and January 2019, nearly 3,000 unaccompanied minors were confined at the Tornillo Detention Facility in Texas, a temporary city surrounded by barbed wire and military tents.

Arriving at night, these teenagers from Central and South America were brought by border agents to the facility, where human touch was a rare commodity.

As they navigated the harsh environment of the Chihuahuan Desert, the young migrants found solace in imagination and faith, helping them make it through the difficult times.
