Suna East Member of Parliament Junet Mohammed has said his life is under threat, linking the alleged danger to the people he believes were behind the killing of former Rongo University student Sharon Otieno.
In a tweet posted on Monday, November 20, 2018, the Minority Chief Whip in the National Assembly claimed that “Sharon killers are planning to assassinate me and I got your threats… A Muslim does not fear death.”
Junet did not identify the people he was referring to, and he did not explain how he concluded that there was a murder plot against him. It was also not clear from the tweet whether he had reported the matter to police.
State House Secretary of Digital Communication Dennis Itumbi responded by urging the MP to make a formal report. He wrote: “Pole sana my friend. Pray that you remain safe. A tweet is good, but an OB Number is better. Just in case you do not know how to get an OB number, walk to the nearest police station and they will record and investigate and hey you can ask the media to accompany you,”
His remarks drew mixed reactions online, with some Twitter users telling him to provide names and others accusing him of seeking attention.
“The court case searching for the killers should include you as a special witness to just name the killers,” Amuyunzu1 @Amuyunzu11 said.
“Oh pls just shut up! You are looking for political Bonga points. We know you are scared you can’t win an elective seat when Raila retires from politics,” Jackson Wanyama @jwkhasndi commented.
“Kama huogopi kufa ungenyamaza, sikupayukapayuka,” wrote Davis Mzungu @DavisMzungu.
