On July 18, 2019, Kenya Pipeline Company Chairman John Ngumi attributed the decline of the company's market share to fuel adulteration.

The menace of fuel contamination has resulted in a significant reduction of Kenya's petroleum products exports to major markets such as Uganda, with a decrease of up to 50 percent.

Despite this setback, the company is optimistic about recapturing its market share through innovative measures.
