Ghana Coach Kwesi Appiah Denies Fan Attack After AFCON 2019

July 18, 2019

Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah has denied reports that he was attacked by furious Black Stars' fans in Accra, Ghana's capital, following the team's underwhelming performance in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

According to local media reports, Appiah was physically assaulted by fans who were outraged by the team's elimination from the tournament in the Round of 16 by Tunisia in post-match penalties.

However, Appiah has refuted the reports, terming them 'cooked stories.'

'It’s never true I was attacked by anybody. People are cooking stories but it’s not true,' Appiah told GHANASoccernet.com.

Appiah's denial comes as he faces intense pressure to keep his job after failing to guide Ghana to their first Africa Cup of Nations title in 37 years.

He was appointed as the head coach of the Black Stars in 2017, tasked with ending the team's drought of the AFCON title.
