Kenyan Parliament is set to dissolve on Thursday, June 9, 2022, marking the end of its sittings ahead of the August polls. This development has prompted lawmakers to rush and pass priority bills, including supplementary estimates for the financial year 2021/2022 and draft elections regulations for 2022.
Earlier, a procedural motion had been passed to extend sittings at the National Assembly to June 17, but the August House reverted to the initial plan to dissolve on June 9. As a result, lawmakers have been working against time to dispense with priority business before Parliament is adjourned.
On Wednesday, Member of Parliament passed a procedural motion presented by the Majority Whip Emmanuel Wangwe, scheduling a morning sitting on the last day of business in the House. This motion allowed the National Assembly to deliberate on priority business ahead of the dissolution.
Among the bills that the National Assembly is rushing to pass include supplementary estimates for the financial year 2021/2022 and draft elections regulations for 2022.
