July 17, 2019, marked a significant day in the Kenyan political landscape as Kalembe Ndile, a former Kibwezi MP, urged William Ruto to support the 'Handshake' between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga.
According to Ndile, Ruto's refusal to back the 'Handshake' will jeopardize his chances of becoming the President in 2022.
Ndile's statement comes after Ruto publicly criticized Jubilee Party Secretary-General Raphael Tuju for working with Raila, a move that has sparked a heated debate within the party.
On July 14, Ruto took to Twitter to express his disappointment with Tuju's decision, stating, 'Kwa hivyo demokrasia yetu imefikia kiwango cha katibu wa chama kinachotawala kuwa mshauri wa kiongozi wa uinzani? Maajabu!'
Since then, Ruto's supporters have been calling for Tuju's resignation, accusing him of being disloyal to the party.
As the political landscape in Kenya continues to shift, one thing is clear: Ruto's presidential ambitions are at risk if he doesn't back the 'Handshake'.
